Marcelo Santos wurde in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, geboren und absolvierte dort seine Ausbildung als Balletttänzer an der INEARTE (Instituto Nacional das Escolas de Arte – heute Escola Estadual de Dança Maria Olenewa). Nach seinem Abschluss tanzte er einige Jahre am Guaíra Theater in Curitiba in Südbrasilien, bis er seine internationale Karriere als Solist am Ulmer Theater begann. Später tanzte er viele Jahre an den Städtischen Bühnen Augsburg.
Marcelo Santos ist der Gründer von Teatro-dos-Três, wo er als Künstlerischer Leiter und Choreograf zahlreiche Stücke entwickelte und inszenierte. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er als Gastchoreograf in Augsburg, Rudolstadt, Ingolstadt, Berlin, Konstanz, Stuttgart und München.
In dem Projekt Bildung durch Tanz und Bewegung (zusammen mit der Bosch-Stiftung, Tanja Liedtke Stiftung und vhs Stuttgart) unterstützte er durch Konzeption und künstlerische Projektbegleitung die Bewegungserziehung und Körperbewusstsein von Jugendlichen.
Marcelo Santos Bestreben gilt der Weiterentwicklung und Förderung des zeitgenössischen Tanzes, als Jurymitglied und Experte ist er weltweit ein gern gesehener Gast bei Festivals und Wettbewerben.
Ein wichtiges Projekt ist das Internationale Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival Stuttgart, das jährlich in Stuttgart durchgeführt wird. Er ist Gründer dieses Wettbewerbs für junge Choreographen und Tänzer und dessen Künstlerischer Leiter.
Mit den Preisträgern des Wettbewerbs ist er regelmäßig auf Tournee in Deutschland und Europa (Schweiz, Griechenland, Portugal und Nederlanden). Außerdem touren die Künstler seit 2008 auch jedes Jahr im Rahmen einer Kooperation mit Mostra Paranaense de Dança, Viva Dança Festival International, Encontro de Dança Contemporanea de Natal und MID (Mostra International de Dança Brasilia) in Brasilien.
Darüber hinaus hat er weitere kulturelle Austauschprojekte initiiert und geleitet, wo Choreographen und Tänzer aus zwei verschiedenen Ländern miteinander eine Vorstellung entwickeln und in beide Ländern zeigen:

This is amazing! But we are also amazed by so many wonderful artistic and contemporary concepts dealing with current, relevant topics – all worthy to present. You can imagine how this made curating for us a quite challenging task as we can only choose 18 pieces for the festival.

Der krönende Abschluss der diesjährigen Tanztage22 trägt den Titel Herbst und findet am Samstag, 15. Oktober, um 20 Uhr im Kulturzentrum neun statt. Zu Gast an diesem Abend: die Preisträger/-innen des Internationalen Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival Stuttgart.
Bereits seit 26 Jahren stellen sich junge Tänzer/-innen und Choreografen/-innen im Rahmen des Stuttgarter Wettbewerbs einer internationalen hochkarätigen Jury des zeitgenössischen Tanzes. „Der gute Ruf des Festivals hat sich längst weltweit herum-gesprochen (…), bei über 210 Bewerbungen ist es natürlich sehr schwer zu entscheiden, welche 18 letztlich am Wettbewerb teil-nehmen“, sagt der künstlerische Leiter und Gründer, Marcelo Santos. Nun kommen Preisträger/-innen aus verschiedenen Jahren für eine Veranstaltung der besonderen Art nach Ingolstadt und sorgen durch das hohe tänzerische und künstlerische Niveau für einen Kunstgenuss.
Alle Tänzer/-innen bringen ihren jeweils ganz eigenen tänzerischen Ausdruck mit und so sind auch die aufgegriffenen Themen und Tendenzen von einer unglaublichen Vielfalt.
Gefördert werden die Tanztage22 durch den Bezirk Oberbayern und den Bayerischen Landesverband für den Zeitgenössischen Tanz.

NAH DRAN – Kultur im Gespräch: Internationales Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival (Hybrid)
Anlässlich des 30-jährigen Jubiläums des TREFFPUNKT Rotebühlplatz hat Andreas Winter die Macher/innen des Internationalen Solo-Tanz-Theater Festivals bei „NAH DRAN“ zu Gast. Andreas Winter, der Initiator und langjährige Moderator der Reihe „Nah dran“ spricht mit dem künstlerischen Leiter Marcelo Santos, der Festivalleiterin Gudrun Hähnel, dem ehemaligen Jury-Mitglied Louis Stiens, wie auch der langjährigen Moderatorin des Festivals Sonia Santiago und der Journalistin Petra Mostbacher-Dix über das Festival von den Anfängen bis heute und wird einen vorsichtigen Blick auf die Zukunft des Festivals wagen. Natürlich darf auch der Tanz selbst nicht fehlen: Zur „Veranschaulichung“ präsentieren Sara Angius, Preisträgerin von 2013, und Jon Ole Olstad, Preisträger von 2015, Solostücke. Die Begrüßung erfolgt durch die Direktorin der vhs stuttgart, Frau Dagmar Mikasch-Köthner.

The festival will also promote an artistic residency and will release an original podcast as part of its program. Throughout its history, VIVADANÇA International Festival has established a connection with dance artists from all continents. In the last 15 years, the festival – organized from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil – has promoted the performance of 248 different dance pieces, making it an important player in connecting Bahia to other parts of the world. In this continuous dialogue, artists from 56 countries (among which 20 countries from all regions of the African continent) have participated in the annual event, either with shows, videos, documentaries, workshops or lectures. Last year, VIVADANÇA consolidated a new part of its program, called “Conexão África” (African connection), in order to further deepen the link with African artists and enable a greater contact with them by Brazilian producers and Brazilian audience. In this 15th edition, which debuts on International Dance Day (April 29) and runs until May 8, the festival welcomes representatives from 17 countries, including Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Guinea, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Guadeloupe Island, Peru, Spain, France and Portugal. Its program will be hybrid, with in-person and online activities. On the curators rested a huge responsibility as they had to choose 18 choreographies out of an abundance of great works. The quality, talents and creativity of their choreographers as well as of countless young interpreters left us almost speechless. It was a very exciting process. I want to wish the works that didn’t make it to the finals the best of luck for next year. May they continue to inspire us and support us to maintain this platform for contemporary choreography.
