Wettbewerb für zeitgenössische Choreograf*innen und junge Tänzer*innen
Das Internationale Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival gibt einen aktuellen Überblick über die neuesten Entwicklungen der jungen Solo-Tanz-Theater-Szene. Choreograf*innen und Tänzer*innen aus aller Welt präsentieren ein Solostück, das eine neue, originelle, fantasievolle und ungewöhnliche Leistung mit eigenem Stil bietet. Beurteilt und prämiert werden sowohl Choreografie als auch Dramaturgie, Tanz, Musikalität und die Präsentation insgesamt.
Teilnahmebedingungen
1. Nachwuchschoreograf*innen können sich mit einem zeitgenössischen Solostück bewerben, das uraufgeführt wird oder zum Zeitpunkt der Aufführung beim Festival im März 2027 nicht älter als ein Jahr ist. Die Aufführungsdauer muss zwischen 9 und 12 Minuten liegen. Die Choreografien sollen auf der Basis einer zeitgenössischen und vor allem eigenen Bewegungssprache entwickelt sein. Die Wahl der Themen und der Musik ist freigestellt. Das Stück kann vom Choreografen oder der Choreografin selbst oder von einem Tänzer oder einer Tänzerin interpretiert werden. Die Altersgrenze für den*die Tänzer*in liegt bei 30 Jahren.
2. Die Online-Anmeldung muss bis zum 11. November 2026, 24.00 Uhr (MEZ) registriert sein. Die Choreografie (auch Arbeitsprobe), die beim Festival präsentiert werden soll, wird als Online-Link (Achtung: Nur YouTube- und Vimeo-Links sind möglich) eingereicht. Für den Fall, dass die Bewerber*innen für ihr Bewerbungsvideo die Plattform Vimeo nutzen, ist es notwendig, die Download-Funktion einzustellen. Es werden nur vollständige und fristgerecht eingereichte Bewerbungen in deutscher oder englischer Sprache berücksichtigt.
3. Ein Kuratorium entscheidet über die Zulassung zum Wettbewerb. Der Veranstalter behält sich die Zulassung zum Wettbewerb vor. Die Teilnehmenden erhalten bis Ende Dezember 2026 eine Einladung zum Wettbewerb.
4. Die Teilnehmenden verpflichten sich, an allen vier Veranstaltungstagen für Auftritte frei zu sein sowie für Interviews, Film- und Fernsehmitschnitte und Fotoaufnahmen u. ä. honorarfrei zur Verfügung zu stehen.
5. Die Veranstaltung wird live unter www.vhs-stuttgart.de und www.solo-tanz-theater.de übertragen.
6. Die Vorentscheidungen des Wettbewerbs werden von Donnerstagabend bis Samstagabend öffentlich vor einer international besetzten Jury durchgeführt. Am Samstagabend gibt die Jury bekannt, welche Teilnehmenden für das Finale nominiert sind. Das Finale findet am Sonntagabend statt. Die Finalist*innen werden ihr Solostück am Sonntag ein weiteres Mal präsentieren. Alle Teilnehmenden verpflichten sich bis zum Ende des Festivals anwesend zu sein.
7. Die Entscheidung der Jury ist verbindlich. Ist ein*e Teilnehmer*in Ensemble-Mitglied oder Student*in einer Jurorin oder eines Jurors, wird sich diese*r bei der Entscheidung der Stimme enthalten.
8. Es werden Geldpreise von insgesamt € 16.000 und Residenzpreise vergeben. Das Preisgeld unterliegt der Steuer, die vom Veranstalter einbehalten wird.

9. Technische Daten
Bühne: Bühnengröße 10 m × 8,50 m, schwarzer Tanzboden, 4 Gassen je Bühnenseite, Backdrop schwarz oder graue Steinwand; Standardlicht: Fläche (2 Reihen Frontlicht) warm und kalt (L202, L204), Gegenlicht (2 Reihen Gegenlicht) warm und kalt; Gassen warm und kalt. Specials: Spot Bühnenmitte (ohne Farbfilter), Stroboskop. Tonträger: CD (CD-Audio), USB (WAV oder MP3).
Für das Bühnenbild sind nur leicht transportierbare Requisiten zugelassen, deren Auf- und Abbau den Programmablauf nicht verzögern. Außerdem müssen diese der Brandschutzklasse B1 (schwer entflammbar) entsprechen. Das Hängen von Gegenständen ist nicht möglich.
Eine finale Prüfung obliegt der Veranstaltungstechnik der vhs stuttgart. Materialien (Sand, Wasser, Steine, Mehl, Puder, Perlen, Murmeln etc.), die die Bühne verschmutzen, einen zu hohen Reinigungsaufwand nach der Performance verursachen oder eine zu große Unfallgefahr darstellen, sind nicht zugelassen. Ebenso sind offenes Feuer, Kerzen, Pyrotechnik sowie Nebel-, Haze- oder Rauch-Effekte und sonstige Effekte, die besondere sicherheitstechnische Maßnahmen erfordern, nicht gestattet. Am Tag der Aufführung stehen jedem*r Teilnehmenden maximal 45 Minuten für das Einrichten der Bühne, die Programmierung der Performance und die Probe zur Verfügung. Die Lichtprogrammierung ist Bestandteil dieses Zeitfensters. Für die Umsetzung stehen ausschließlich die in dieser Ausschreibung aufgeführten technischen Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung.
10. Die Teilnahme am Wettbewerb ist kostenlos. Die Teilnehmenden werden in Doppelzimmern untergebracht, die sie sich jeweils mit einem anderen Teilnehmenden teilen. Der Veranstalter übernimmt die Hotelkosten (inkl. Frühstück) und zahlt einen Zuschuss zu den Reisekosten.
11. Die Preisträger*innen sind verpflichtet, an der „Gala der Preisträger*innen des 31. Internationalen Solo-Tanz-Theater Festivals Stuttgart 2027“ teilzunehmen. Diese Tournee findet vom 12. – 30. November 2027 in Deutschland statt. Diese Auftritte werden honoriert, Reise-, Hotel- und Verpflegungskosten werden übernommen.

Competition for contemporary choreographers and young dancers
The festival will provide an overall view of the latest trends in the solo dance theatre scene. As participants in the competition, choreographers and dancers from around the world are requested to perform a solo piece which is new, original, imaginative, unique and which displays unusual achievement. A renowned international jury will judge choreographic and dance skills as well as musicality, interpretation and performance.
Conditions of entry
1. Choreographers may participate in the competition with a solo piece that is presented either as a premiere or is not older than one year at the time of the performance at the festival in March 2027. The duration of the performance has to be between 9 and 12 minutes. The choreographies should be developed along the lines of a contemporary and genuine movement language. The applicant is free in choice of subject and music. The piece can be interpreted by the choreographer him/herself or by a dancer. The dancer must be 30 or younger.
2. The application must be filled online until 11th November 2026, 12.00 o’clock midnight CET and is only complete with sending an online link (attention: only YouTube or Vimeo links) to the choreographic work (also rehearsal) which shall be presented at the festival. If the applicant uses Vimeo for his/her submission video it is necessary to adjust the download function. Only complete applications which are handed in within the deadline will be considered. Applications must be submitted in German or English.
3. A curatorship will select the choreographers and dancers to participate in the competition. Admission to the competition is subject to the organizers’ consent. The selected choreographers and dancers will receive an invitation until the end of December 2026 at the latest.
4. Competitors are obliged to be available for performances on the four festival days. They agree to be available for rehearsals, interviews, movie and television recordings and photos free of charge.
5. The event will be broadcast live on the following websites www.vhs-stuttgart.de and www.solo-tanz-theater.de.
6. The first-round-decisions of the competition will take place between Thursday and Saturday evening in front of an audience and international jury. The final will be held on Sunday evening. The decision of the jury concerning the nomination for the final will be announced on Saturday evening. The finalists will again present their solo piece on Sunday. All participants are expected to stay until the end of the festival.
7. The decision of the jury is binding. In the event that students or ensemble members of a juror are among the participants, he/she will abstain from voting in the decision.
8. Prizes to a total value of € 16.000 and residence prizes will be awarded. Before the aw ard winners are paid, the organizer is obliged to deduct tax from the prize money.

9. Technical data
Stage: Size of the stage (dance floor) 10 m x 8.50 m, black dance floor, 4 wings on each side of the stage, black backdrop or grey stonewall;
Light: Front light (2 rows of front lights) warm and cold (L202, L204), backlight (2 rows of backlights) warm and cold; wings warm and cold;
Special effects: Spotlight at center stage (without colour filters), strobe light;
Sound (music): CD (CD audio), USB (WAV or MP3);
For the stage design, only easily transportable props whose construction and dismantling will not delay the program and fulfill the B1 standard (low flammability) will be admitted. Rigging or suspending objects is not possible. A final check is the responsibility of the technical department of the vhs stuttgart. Materials (sand, water, stones, flour, powder, pearls, marbles etc.) that soil the stage or cause excessive cleaning after the performance or present a high risk of accidents are not permitted. Open fires, candles, fireworks, as well as fog, haze or smoke effects and any other effects that require special safety measures are prohibited.
On the day of the performance, a maximum of 45 minutes will be permitted to each competitor to set up the stage, programme the performance and rehearse. Lighting programming forms part of this time slot. Only the technical facilities specified in this competition guidelines are available for use.
10. There is no entrance fee. The participants will be accommodated in a double bed room which will be shared with another participant. The organizer will cover the hotel costs (incl. breakfast) and pay a subsidy towards the travel expenses.
11. Prize winners are required to participate in the “Gala of the Prize Winners of the 31. International Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival Stuttgart 2027.” This tour will take place in Germany from 12 to 30 November 2027. These performances are paid engagements, and all travel, accommodation, and meal expenses will be covered.
